Effects of urban compactness on the building energy performance in Mediterranean climate

چکیده
This work explores the double effect of urban compactness on building energy performance in a Mediterranean climate, namely the increase of urban heat island (UHI) intensity and the decrease of solar radiation availability on building façades. The energy demand of a test apartment has been calculated under varying conditions of UHI intensity and solar radiation for different urban textures. Results show robust relationships between the energy demand and the ‘site coverage ratio’ of the buildings. This demonstrates that compact urban textures are more energy efficient than less dense urban patterns in a Mediterranean climate. © 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. Effects of supportive spaces and people on heating energy demand in cold climate in Iran
Decreasing heating needed energy of building located in mountainous areas without any urban infrastructure of energy supply and services is one of the most important things to get thermal comfort. Accordingly, using building conditions based on different types of applicability and passive design strategies should be considered. Therefore, the objective of this study was to achieve the pro...

Nowadays, with the development of the economy, the demand for energy is increasing rapidly while the energy supply is growing shorter and shorter. Researches indicate that energy consumption in the residential sector counts for the main parts of the total energy consumption. This paper evaluates the effect of building orientation on exposure to the solar radiation in a NESW orientated case o...

The natural ventilation and the energy consumption are very important characteristics in buildings. Representation of the patterns for better natural ventilation performance versus lower increase in energy consumption is significant and useful. This study is simulating an office building in the temperate and humid climate of Rasht in Iran, and calculated the annual ventilation and the energy co...

Industrialization and increasing demand for the consumption of fossil fuels cause that energy becomes a strategic factor. Energy crisis and the emergence of modern architecture led designers to pay more attention to the important task of building's envelope. Building skins play an important role in building thermal behavior and reduce energy consumption. If Double Skin Facades properly designed...
